Frequently Asked Questions
Am I legally required to have a defibrillator in my workplace?
There's currently no blanket legal requirement for every UK workplace to have a defibrillator, though it's increasingly expected as best practice, particularly in larger workplaces, schools, sports clubs and public access locations. A risk assessment is a good starting point to establish whether one is appropriate for your setting.
Do I need training to use a defibrillator?
Modern AEDs are designed to guide the user through each step with voice and visual prompts, so they can be used by someone with little or no prior training in an emergency. That said, we'd still recommend formal training for anyone likely to use one, so they feel confident acting quickly.
How often do defibrillator batteries and pads need replacing?
This varies by model and manufacturer, but batteries and electrode pads both have a shelf life, typically several years, even if the device is never used. We stock replacement batteries and pads for our defibrillator ranges, so check your specific model's guidance and replace them before they expire to keep your device ready for use.
What accessories do I need alongside a defibrillator?
Most organisations also equip their defibrillator with a prep kit (containing items such as shears, a razor and gloves), a wall cabinet or carry case for storage, and a resuscitation shield for use alongside CPR. We stock all of these separately if your device didn't come with them included.
Should our defibrillator be stored indoors or outdoors?
This depends on the device and cabinet you choose, some are designed for indoor use only, while others are built with weatherproof outdoor cabinets for 24/7 public access. If you're planning an outdoor installation, get in touch and we can help make sure you choose a suitable device and cabinet.
Do you offer support with choosing the right defibrillator for our organisation?
Yes, get in touch with us directly and we can help you choose the right device and accessories based on your setting, budget and whether it needs to be accessible to the public.
